Changelog generator

See an up-to-date change log of TWiki's CVS here:

  • http://changelog.twiki.andersenwiki.com/changelog.cgi (defunct)

Also, I wanted to include an inline version on this page, but was not able to, perhaps due to problem at ProperIncludeUrls. Also, it would be nice to parse this page output as TWiki format.

Failed to include URL http://changelog.twiki.andersenwiki.com/changelog.cgi Can't connect to changelog.twiki.andersenwiki.com:80 (Bad hostname)

Very nice, thanks for doing this!

If you could generate HTML that linked to the actual change in CVS, that would be even nicer - however, this would need to be done once per file which might be hard, though you can do links such as http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/twiki/twiki/bin/mailnotify.diff?r1=1.26&r2=1.27 based on the old and new revisions of each file. Ideally you could link to the email list archives via TWikiDevMailingList's http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum=twiki-dev - this would be much harder, since you'd have to parse the email headers, which appear to have a Date header that is 8 hours different to the change log.

Sure, how about this then to show changes between the last release to the HEAD revision:

NB. This does not yet update automatically. BTW I altered the chalogen code a bit, diffs back to the author are pending.

If this is okay, I'll scrap the original and make this one automatically update.

-- MartinCleaver - 09 Dec 2002

This looks really good! It will help to make the details of changes more easily accessible and hopefully increase takeup of the alpha release, i.e. more AlphaTesting.

The only thing I would change is to put a blank line between the end of each table and the next bullet, so it's easier to see that the bullet relates to the table below. The diffs link is not working, which I suspect is what you meant where you mentioned diffs in your comment.

-- RichardDonkin - 10 Dec 2002

Thanks smile

The diffs do work for me - can you be more specific about what fails? (My comment about diffs was that I altered the chalogen's authors code - and have now submitted a patch).

As for the cosmetic change, I'll have a bash.

-- MartinCleaver - 10 Dec 2002

The diffs were generating some sort of error message on every one, but I didn't bother writing it down since I thought you said they weren't done yet. They are now all working fine, so it might have been a SourceForge CVSweb problem.

The cosmetic update looks good, easier to read now.

-- RichardDonkin - 10 Dec 2002

smile I didn't get around to doing the cosmetic change!

You can see the CGI interface now..

-- MartinCleaver - 11 Dec 2002

Okay, I've had a go at installing statcvs as well. There is no way to update it yet, but I thought I'd get some feedback before doing any more.

If it is useful I will have a bash at moving it to a proper URL in the new year.

See above for the URL

-- MartinCleaver - 22 Dec 2002

Much to my surprise this changelog system is still working. It is about to change URL though as that domain expires soon.

I'm somewhat busy at the mo. Get in quick to see this working smile It might be down for weeks.

Otherwise if somebody volunteers to install it at twikiplugins.sf.net I will send them the code.

This is already implemented using trac. Check it out at http://develop.twiki.org/trac
