Community Decisions

Types of decisions made by the TWiki community

  • Release
    • what is in the release
    • when is code good enough to release,
    • what needs to be done to code to make it releasable etc.
    • which bugs have the highest priority
    • Note: This is in place and working well.
  • Roadmap
    • This is another way of saying how do we direct the future work carried out by the community
    • What are the "themes" we need to follow
    • Which requirements have the highest priority in the context of the roadmap
  • Attribution
    • How we give contributors and sponsors credit
  • TWiki site
    • setting up new webs,
    • changing webhome of any web,
    • using the mailing lists (eg how to send out email on the low volume mail list)
    • warning users in the case of bad conduct and banning them if necessary
    • refactoring
  • Teams
    • Accepting people into teams (e.g. giving checkin rights, security team)
  • Community assets
    • managing the use/ownership of community assets e.g. domains, trademarks, server etc
  • Rest of the world
    • statements made on behalf of TWiki e.g. press releases,
    • communications with other OSS projects,
    • communication with Commerce (in the sense of CommerceAndCommunity)
  • Governance
    • Creating rules and structures pertaining to how we govern ourselves,
    • Changing such rules and structures.

Note - there are undoubtedly things missing from this list! All I'm trying to do is to start off the discussion.

Also note that not all of the above decisions are of equal importance. Therefore some of them should be addressed by a "central council" (ITSC?) and others should be made by "sub councils". But I'm sure that detail such as that will be addressed later on.

I added a few things. Here's my marks out of ten for how well I think we do these things as a community (some things are done well by individuals, but poorly by the community as a whole). IMHO lower numbers require more attention.

  • Release (9)
  • Roadmap (1)
  • Attribution (7)
  • TWiki site (5)
  • Teams (8)
  • Community assets (9)
  • Rest of the world (4)
  • Governance (3)

How about the community summits, they should be on the list somewhere?
