Necessary to compete

Products compete.

"When corporation achieved a significant competitive advantage, it quickly [becomes] incumbent on competitors to neutralise that advantage, to avoid 'competitive disadvantage'. The notion of 'competitive necessity' complements that of 'competitive advantage'. "

Roughly quoted from http://www.anu.edu.au/people/Roger.Clarke/SOS/AbstractStratBled.html

Hence where we do not ImplementIdeaBeforeTheCompetition, we must implement it after. (Assuming customers both know and care)

Agreed that it is important to watch and follow the competition. However, a leading product should also explore new grounds!
