So-called Cool URIs

Which mostly aren't for so many reasons, even for reasons going to back to the stone age of pre-wikidom (like, um, stupid stuff like cgi-bin in the URL).

So-called "Cool URIs" are discussed in:

  • CoolURIsDontChange - the original statement of the problem of dangling links, which really doesn't apply to wikis very well.
  • ManageStaleContent - vaguely discussed in how to manage pages that are no longer relevant.

Related topics (with a little explanation of how they are related):

  • RedirectPlugin allows one to produce TWiki topics that automatically redirect to other TWiki topics or URLs. Ooo, shiny!
  • TopicRenamedHandler - proposes the idea of a landing page where the user is presented the new link (in case the topic was renamed) from a look-up table
  • PluginHandlerForContentMove - proposal for a general alert mechanism if a web, topic or attachments ares renamed
This list in CoolURIs

Probably mostly irrelevant, but...

  • HealingLinkRot - TWiki (and most wiki software) doesn't get 404s. So no LinkRot anywho.
  • RenamingWithoutBreakingOldLinks - proposes to write a .htaccess file for Apache with lots of 'redirectmatch' or similar directives so that the redirections are generated by the web server. but may cause confusion for wikimasters because they don't know that the apache redirect has been created
  • AvoidRenameLosingHistory - offers a conceptual solution, albeit complex. One of the quick solutions has been implemented in TWiki.WebTopicViewTemplate and presents the user a number of 'related' items and a message when a topic has been moved.
  • ProposalToEnableRenamingTopics - proposes that when a topic is renamed, optionally create a new topic with the old name that includes a meta tag with the relevant information
