TWiki 4.0 Release Party

The DakarRelease team has been working very hard for a long time to make the release stable. Very soon it will be time to party!

TWiki Release 4.0 (aka DakarRelease) will be announced at the upcoming 01 Feb 2006 WikiWednesdays gathering at Socialtext headquarters in Palo Alto, California. Ross Mayfield, the CEO of Socialtext generously offered this venue for the TWiki 4.0 launch party.

Another important aspect of the release party is TWikiAdvocacy. Let's organize the event so that people take note (literally: In blogs, news letters, newspapers, etc.) Please contact PeterThoeny for a press release, to be released on 01 Feb 2006.

During the presentation (click to enlarge) Peter presenting TWiki 4.0. Sitting on carpet are Scott McMullan of JotSpot and Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes

Agenda:

Around 40-50 people attended the event, more than usual. There have been representatives of Socialtext, JotSpot and Atlassian. Peter's presentation was mainly based on the talk he gave at LinuxWorld - due to lack of time to prepare. The WysiwygPlugin, the StructuredWiki concept and wiki as an application platform was well received.

Release Parties in other Regions

WikiWednesdays happen simultaneously in several places around the world. Please take this opportunity to organize a Dakar Release party in your region. A good way to meet fellow TWiki users! This does not necessarily need to be a WikiWednesdays event location. To get started, search registered TWiki.org users in your city (or cities in your region), contact them by e-mail, then start a new ---++ Release Party in ... section above. For example, to party in New York, search for New Yorkers.

Other ideas of celebrating the Dakar release? (Moved Steffen's idea over from DakarReleaseMeeting2006x01x16)

-- PeterThoeny - 18 Jan 2006

In the sillier department, what we might also do, was to do the old t-shirt trick. That is, prepare a t-shirt logo / print, perhaps using the new collaboration logo and stating something like "Release Master, TWiki 4.0", or "This guy just released TWiki 4 - the coolest wiki for intranet use" - or whatever, many people do these oneliners better than I do :-). While we are Wikipedia:Antipodes in dailylife, this could be someting we'd share for a day or two. Could include a picture of each of the members of the team (logistic issues in this, not all people want their picture out, etc) - but you get the idea. Designed globally, printed locally (nearest print shop, ~$10, many just needs the image in an e-mail and will snailmail the tshirt back).

Hehe, I see you are sneaking in on the idea, already, Franz smile I'll have a couple of those printed already, so I'll have something relevant to wear under all circumstances. Do you have a high-resolution version / vector version available? Update, found it in FriendshipLogos -> direct link smile

-- SteffenPoulsen - 18 Jan 2006

Nice idea Steffen!

-- PeterThoeny - 18 Jan 2006

Can I get my picture added with the subtitle: Brian Gupta - Twiki critic? wink

-- BrianGupta - 20 Jan 2006

Any chance of a webcast?

-- MarcusLeonard - 21 Jan 2006

Damn, Aurelio, just three months before I go back home you make such a party ... maybe we can delay the release so I can participate in the party after going back to Salvador. ( I'm kidding ! smile ).

-- AntonioTerceiro - 22 Jan 2006

Marcus: Sorry, at this time we do not plan on having a webcast. Folks in th UK: There is a WikiWednesdays in London. Anyone interested in gathering TWiki folks in London? See http://www.socialtext.net/wikiwed/member/index.cgi?london_wikiwed_1_feb_2006

-- PeterThoeny - 27 Jan 2006

WikiWednesdays in London has a bunch of people signed up, including Ross Mayfield, CEO of Socialtext. It would be cool if someone organizes a Dakar Release party in London!
