Minutes of Freetown Release Meeting, 29 Jan 2007

TOC and Agenda

Logistics, Participants, IRC log

1. TWiki 4.1.0 has severe bugs, 4.1.1 release need urgently

We have seen quite severe bugs in 4.1.0 already the first days after the release. Bugs like you cannot login to a read restricted TWiki, formatted search completely broken, you cannot create new topics in old webs, etc

In fact 4.1.0 is not a recommended upgrade in my view (KennethLavrsen). The most severe bugs are fixed but there are still several release blockers open and very little attention getting them closed. I want to release 4.1.1 within the next 7 days. In fact I would have wanted to release it this weekend but since the bugs are still open I cannot.

  • Desired outcome:
  • Commitment to close the release blockers within 1-2 days.

  • The release meeting agreed that a 4.1.1 is urgently needed. A walkthrough of release blockers gave these key items and decisions

  • Bugs:Item3510 - CommentPlugin templates newline issue - Decision: keep changed spec and document properly - doc updates needed - Kenneth will fix these.
  • (DONE) Bugs:Item3529 - configure stores access octals as string. Crawford has already fixed the urgent part. Cosmetic issues left on other bug item.
  • Bugs:Item3511 - Can't go to "next" screen in configure, using Win XP. Possibly a config errors and then not urgent. Seeking more info. Probably not a release blocker. Peter will ask reporters.
  • Bugs:Item3528 - BlackListPlugin: Redirects to an empty classic style screen when you get caught. Seems to be a core bug. Arthur will try to fix.
  • Bugs:Item3476 - Excessive requirement on Perl v5.8.0, lowered to 5.5.3
    • Decision: We cannot claim 5.5.3 or 5.6.X when it has now been tested and we know it does not work
    • Decision: 4.1.1 scope: Configure will not be hardcoded to stop if perl < 5.8. Instead it will warn. Crawford will add something close to "Warning. Your Perl version is older then 5.8.X. TWiki has only been tested with 5.8.X. Running on older version may require updating your Perl installation." to configure. None of the TWiki scripts should stop running because of perl version to allow people to help resolving issues.
    • Decision: Post 4.1.1. Setup test environment and attempt to support at least 5.6.X and if possible 5.5.3. Assessment will show.
  • Deferred Bugs:Item3443 - SEARCH performance under mod_perl is awful - proposed and already checked in code is risky and requires more testing for a long time. Deferred to later release. Can easily be post installedbu patch if people want to try it.
  • Deferred Bugs:Item3509 - initializeUserHandler receives no loginName - proposed fix has risk of reintroducing a security issue. Crawford will study the code further. Deferred till after 4.1.1. Not a release blocker.
  • DONE Bugs:Item3483 - Error logging in when there is apache login and DENYWEBVIEW. Urgent fix already done but Kenneth suspects that a symptom hides a serious bug. _update - yes there were 3 more bugs in the ApacheLogin and a serious bug in the new redirect code. All have been fixed.
  • (DONE) Bugs:Item3486 - Funny characters in PageNames? cause problems. Fixed during the meeting. Kenneth is testing and will check in the fix when tested OK. update - tested OK but looking for other non-urgent fix related

Action Items

Comments / Feedback

Is there a list of the showstoppers that need to be addressed?

I just added the #twiki_release IRC log. Kenneth will post the minutes soon. In the mean time see Bugs:ReleaseBlocker (ignore the extensions that are not in the default distribution.)
