Minutes of Freetown Release Meeting, 2008-01-21

TOC and Agenda

Logistics, Participants, IRC log

1. Decision on GuideLinesLinkingThirdPartyDistributions

  • After a week of discussion I KennethLavrsen has defined a guideline for the linking to external releases. Note that this guideline does not cover sponsor logos etc.
    • Accepted with the modification that 3rd party links can be older versions but the version number must then be visible on all the links.

  • Additionally Kenneth Lavrsen has created GuideLinesSponsorPresenceOnTWikiDotOrg and added the known sponsors to the download page for 4.2.0 so people can see how it would look like. They can be removed again if the community does not find that they should be there. But sometimes it is easier to discuss something we can see.
    • Decision. Accept current TWikiRelease04x02 sponsor llinks as they are to not delay 4.2.0 release. And make final decision on the guide line topic content in two weeks at next release meeting.

2. Review Urgent Bugs

  • Bugs:Item5263 - Preview with pickaxe/wysiwyg and Firefox make you lose all you typed when you go back.
    • This is a serious issue that was reported by the users that had been exposed to Item5218
    • This is a known bug in Firefox, but this specific case begs the question; why do you need preview with WYSIWYG? Why not simply disable it?
    • Release meeting decision: Disable preview in 4.2.0 and fix in 4.2.1.
  • Bugs:Item5265 - RevCommentPlugin causes zero byte attachment.
    • Kenneth believes the error description is not correct. Kenneth runs two installations live in production with RevCommentPlugin and this has not been seen even once.
    • Will not block release. Downgrading to normal and waiting for feedback to find more info on the circumstances.
  • Bugs:Item5218 - Wysiwyg editing often creates a bogus conflict and merge that destroys topic
    • Kenneth believes this is fixed enough to release. Is has not been possible to trigger the error. And with preview disabled the vector is gone.
    • Community recognized SvenDowideit for the good work done nailing this nasty bug.
  • Bugs:Item5257 - TinyMCE pads bullets incl. "set" variables with trailing spaces breaking some plugins and TWiki apps.
    • Kenneth says: Only fix if we are 100% sure this does not bring back some old new line eating bug.
    • Release meeting agreed that fixing this was too risky. Plugins that fail are too fragile and should be fixed anyway. Two are already fixed.
  • Bugs:Item5258 - Preview does not set ORIGINALREV and other values in edit.tmpl, so continuing from there has problems
    • Wasn't this fixed?
      • Sven to verify.
  • Bugs:Item4946 - urlDecode() not working for characters represented by Unicode code points
    • The original fix was reverted. New fix has not been verified by anyone. Deferred to 4.2.1
  • Bugs:Item5135 - EditTablePlugin must disable initsort when editing table TABLE tag to work with new move row feature
    • Deferred to 4.2.1
  • Bugs:Item5118 - Difference from 4.1.2 - 4.2: Apache loginname no longer works with access control lists
    • Deferred to 4.2.1

Overall note. We have a serious issue with preview. In reality we do not have a preview feature when using Firefox. The idea of preview is see the rendered topic before saving and being able to go back and fix thing. But the way it works - the minute a person has just once used the pickaxe feature - preview has become an "accept or loose all your edits" feature. If this does not get fixed within a few days the only way to get 4.2.0 out is to remove the preview feature.

Comments / Feedback

Is it correct, that the next Meeting will take place tomorrow (Monday, 4th of february) at 21 GMT on IRC Channel #twiki_release? I will try to get a IRC-client and participate ... smile

-- MartinSeibert - 03 Feb 2008

Another question for me is: Do I have to use a certain IRC-Server to connect? Is there a document in this wiki, that explains the procedure for a novice?

-- MartinSeibert - 03 Feb 2008

See TWikiIRC for details.
