28 Oct 2004 - TWiki mentioned in Slashdot http://slashdot.org/articles/04/10/28/1952230.shtml?tid=95

Unfortunately the first reply to this post was: OTOH, I don't know if TWiki is the answer. Something like it perhaps, but TWiki itself tends to be unwieldily, visually confusing, and ugly. PHPWiki solved many of the problems by taking the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!) path, but lost a lot of functionality along the way. MediaWiki (the Wiki that runs Wikipedia) is probably the best compromise, but it lacks some of the security features that make TWiki viable in a corporate environment.

Another thread "You mean the robot from Buck Rogers?" mentioned TWiki, but only to poke fun at the name and the logo.

There are more comments about TWiki, some of them sort-of positive, but the way to improve things is to post on SlashDot to help explain TWiki. I've commented here.

Thanks Richard! Exactly, a speedy reply is the best approach to evangelize TWiki. See TWikiAdvocacy01Sep2004.

(I moved the previous two comments from TWikiInTheNews since I do not consider Slashdot comments "in the news". They are useful "comments" we can use as feedback for TWiki improvements)

I think you moved the comments out because they were negative about TWiki. That's ok with me, i can understand your reaction. But please don't underestimate SlashDot. The banner headline "News for Nerds; Stuff that Matters" is no lie. It is the most widely-read nerd blog on the planet. Companies that recognise the power of advertising love to get "slashdotted".

There were positive and negative comments. We can learn from the negative comments. Some is also educating the nerds, e.g. the reply to the comment that TWiki has an ugly look.

Appeal to all: A timely reply is key.

Are we going to analyse what they said?
