Discussion
While I understand the pressures involved in preparing for the 4.2.1 release, I'm concerned that we don't have any visibility of the interim TCC's activities, and are at risk of losing momentum. From a purely personal perspective, time is pressing, and I need to make a final decision over the next couple of days whether it is worth coming to the TWiki Summit in Berlin or not.
WikiSym in Porto is a seductive alternative, and I can't afford both.
Since the recent community meetings, we have seen some really constructive steps towards functional governance:
For my small part, these statements in these topics have made me comfortable enough to make some small contributions back to the TWiki core in preparation for 4.2.1. However I'm still unclear what the interim TCC is going to do, and there are a few things that we (the
active community
) might reasonably have expected to happen by now (to forestall any flames, this is
not an attack on anyone, it's an attempt to be constructive and highlight the agenda items that community members have expressed concern about):
- BDFL role definition. In the recent past I have read some strong voices against this concept. Despite that it appears to have been enshrined in FirstCommunityCouncilBackground without respect for those voices. This would appear to be a most pressing question.
- Contribution to TWikiOrganization from other TCC members (ratification of the goals of that topic, or a separate statement clarifying the real agenda of the TCC),
- A schedule of TCC meetings, so we know when to expect things to happen,
- A timetable for decision-making (what decisions need to be made, and when they will be made).
Again, TCC members, please don't overreact to this. My interest is purely in keeping the governance discussion on the top of the agenda.

Nothing is happening in TCC context because both Michael and Martin seems to be on vacation and do not reply on emails or show up on Codev or IRC. We should let them have these days with their families. On the 6th I travel to New York and the next 3-4 days I will not read emails either. Then I continue to Montreal where I expect to have nothing but time to be part of the debate on the governance and to take initiatives.
I think it would be wrong if Peter, Arthur and I ran solo without Michael and Martin.
Peter I think it would be good if you shared your view on the
BDFL role. What will you use this role for? Can you give examples of what you will do and will never do as
BDFL? And how do you plan to avoid abusing the
BDFL role in TWiki.net context? A sort of "If you support me I promise to..." kind of statement.
I created
TWikiTechnicalBoard to get community debate on what I think is the most important entity in TWiki.

Hi Crawford, I am back from, what turned out to be an almost complete time off in july. There is a couple of things to do for the company also, but I am dedicated to starting to build "momentum" for TWiki.org within August. I am looking forward to the Summit and Berlin. I will also be in Porto for
WikiSym 2008. What a pity, that we cannot meet in both places.
I will work on
TWikiOrganization and my personal roadmap next.
