It has become evident that before there is an "Upgrade Guide" for the Cairo Release, there needs to be an "Upgrade Strategy" and some corresponding changes to make upgrading easier. Or so I assert.

In fact, a decision on this point may be a watershed for the fate of TWiki (there's a grand statement, eh?). It seems likely that if TWiki produces another release that is as unfriendly about upgrades as the previous ones, then TWiki will become another esoteric tool used by a few hard-core devotees. That would be a major shame, and not something I would like to see at all.

Hence we have the discussions at TWikiUpgradeStrategy taking place. Hopefully these discussions will result in a well thought out approach to how people should upgrade to Cairo ... and beyond... and from there a really good Upgrade Guide can follow!

Removed the thread that caused confusion and unintentional offense. Martin G summarized the essence of the message nicely at the beginning.
