A non-profit network of wiki developers
FAQ
What is the WikiRing?
The WikiRing is a
non-profit organization of wiki developers and consultants who have teamed up to share their
knowledge and resources for the ultimate benefit of their individual businesses. It is a leaderless organization,
although there is an "inner" ring of
partners, and an "outer" ring of additional
members that are associated with
the WikiRing, but have limited rights with regards to voting and access to shared resources. WikiRing Members
may become partners after a period of time.
The WikiRing is not in itself a business. Instead it acts as a portal onto individual member's businesses,
that allows them to benefit from shared infrastructure, and work within a pool of trusted, expert, colleagues.
WikiRing members often work together in project teams, to address client requirements that
would otherwise be too big for an individual member.
When was the WikiRing founded?
The WikiRing was founded Q1 2006 by
Unfortunately, Will left the WikiRing later for personal reasons.
All 5
WikiRing founders have been involved in the spreading of various Wiki technologies for between
6 and 9 years, ranging from Ward's Wiki through to
JosWiki, TWiki and other collaboration platforms.
What are the current activities of the WikiRing?
WikiRing members are among the most active TWiki developers and thus are an essential part
of the
TWikiCommunity. In addition, each of them is driving his/her own for-profit business in the
wiki consulting market, providing professional services all around TWiki, but not limited to TWiki.
All development done by the WikiRing members is released as Open Source (as long as clients don't object).
What are the goals of the WikiRing?
The primary goal of the WikiRing is to reduce business risk for each member by providing
direct access to other experts in the field. The secondary goal is to provide a framework that can
help unite individuals into more powerful and effective groups, and find economies of scale.
The WikiRing does not have any product goals in itself. However, members do have their
individual goals that often involve other members as well.
Is the WikiRing committed to TWiki only?
No. However, the core competences of existing members
are focused all around TWiki. Nevertheless,
WikiRing members use whatever tools fit best. Last but not least, it
is called the
WikiRing and
not the
TWikiRing.
However, the core competencies of existing members
are focused all around TWiki.
Who are the WikiRing customers?
WikiRing members have leveraged their membership of the WikiRing when doing business with many
companies worldwide. WikiRing members mainly work with small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), though
members have also taken on projects with large corporations, several of which are household names.
Clients include governments, software houses, healthcare, computer manufacturers, fashion houses, car designers,
financial institutions, biochem, electronic manufacturing, charities, global couriers, and many more.
Members are distributed around the globe, which gives the WikiRing a unique ability to provide
contacts in local regions.
How can I join the WikiRing?
Just contact
partners@wikiringPLEASENOSPAM.com and you will receive the detailed Terms of Business.
We expect you to be "visible" in the
TWikiCommunity, or the community of the Collaboration tool you specialise in,
and to have a strong understanding of the client benefits of Open Source.
By its nature, only real persons can join the WikiRing, not complete organizations.
However a dedicated contact person with the right credentials is able to join, in the event that
your
organization wants to take part in the WikiRing directly.
