Meeting Bingo Plugin is a business game to enhance attention at meetings - especially the "longer" kind of meetings.

Games rules.

The game is simple. You create a TWiki topic with one or more lines with the TWiki variable %MEETINGBINGO%.

The plugin then makes a table 5 rows by 5 columns with 25 of the MEETINGBINGOWORDS in a completely random order.

Each participant prints out the topic on paper. Use the print view mode. Each time you refresh the page you get a new bingo card so you can produce many quite quickly. You can have more than one on each page. You can also bring a laptop to the meeting and pretend to read emails.

During the meeting the participants listen carefully to what is said by the other participants. Each time a word is spoken that you have on your bingo card you mark it with a pen. If you have a computer available you can mark the words yellow by clicking on the table cell. When you have 5 in the same row, or 5 in the same column, or 5 on the diagonal, the person stands up and shout "Bingo!" and we have a winner.

You can continue the game for two rows, or the entire card if you so wish and if the meeting is long enough.

The name of this game was originally Bullshit Bingo. But to not provoke too much when managers see the list of installed plug-ins this plug-in has a more appropriate business name.

The original rule is that the winner stands up and shout "Bullshit". If your manager or worse your CEO is in the meeting it may be a good idea that either he is also participating or you use an alternative winner word like "Hear Hear!" or "Bravo!" or "Banana!".

Syntax Rules

  • %MEETINGBINGO% - creates a bingo card
  • %MEETINGBINGOWORDS - are the words for bingo. Minimum 25 words comma separated

The plug-in has one setting. You need to give it minimum 25 words of the kind that people have a tendency to "over-use" at meetings. They are typically business trend words.

The plug-in ships with a default list. You can add your own additional words. A word can be 2-3 words with spaces between. It is the comma that separates them from each other.

Installation Instructions

You do not need to install anything in the browser to use this extension. The following instructions are for the administrator who installs the extension on the server where TWiki is running.

Like many other TWiki extensions, this module is shipped with a fully automatic installer script written using the BuildContrib.

  • If you have TWiki 4.2 or later, you can install from the configure interface (Go to Plugins->Find More Extensions)
  • If you have any problems, then you can still install manually from the command-line:
    1. Download one of the .zip or .tgz archives
    2. Unpack the archive in the root directory of your TWiki installation.
    3. Run the installer script ( perl <module>_installer )
    4. Run configure and enable the module, if it is a plugin.
    5. Repeat for any missing dependencies.
  • If you are still having problems, then instead of running the installer script:
    1. Make sure that the file permissions allow the webserver user to access all files.
    2. Check in any installed files that have existing ,v files in your existing install (take care not to lock the files when you check in)
    3. Manually edit LocalSite.cfg to set any configuration variables.
