Plugin Topics should State GPL
Although quite obvious, Plugin topics should state that the software is released under the GPL (the same license as the
TWikiPackage itself).
The reason is as follows. I got this feedback from a large corporate organization:
"Whenever any plugin is requested by a user, we have to go through a lengthy review including security, licensing etc. However, many (most / all) plugins do not explicitly state their license. While I'm sure it's in the source code, in theory I or anyone must not even download the archive before gaining approval for which we require the licensing information :)"
"May I therefore suggest that your product's usability and acceptance within large organisations, especially in one like ours where security and licensing are very important legally, will be greatly enhanced if the plugins page listed the licenses (or at least a blanket statement that all plugins in a page are released in the same terms as twiki itself)."
Appeal to Plugin authors: For upcoming releases, please add below line to your Plugin's Plugin Info table, just after the "Perl version" row:
| License: | GPL ([[http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html][GNU General Public License]]) |
The
NewPluginTemplate is updated accordingly.
