Stock Ticker Plugin Idea

I think it would be great to be able to have some type of plugin for returning stock quotes, for companies pre-selected by users. I know there are RSS feeds, but these just return news from a selected site. Shouldn't there be a way to tie into Yahoo Finance (for example) to receive a continuous (or regularly updated) quote for a stock, that in turn could be reflected on a page within TWiki, along with it's daily change percentage, or other attributes that may be desireable?

Even if for complexity sake, it's only set up to return information on one stock, and the daily change in that stock, that would be cool. Something as simple as:

Wells Fargo (WFC)
-0.29 at 60.72
06/24/05 16:05 ET

People in my company have requested this, and it would be great to be able to provide. I've looked all over and haven't found anything that fits the bill for this as of yet. Thanks!

You do not need a Plugin. A quick and dirty solution is to screen scrape the ticker from Yahoo finance with and INCLUDE with pattern:

%INCLUDE{ "http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=WFC" pattern=".*?Wells Fargo.*?(<big><b>.*?</b>.*?</b>).*" }%

Resulting in:

Failed to include URL http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=WFC Protocol scheme 'https' is not supported (LWP::Protocol::https not installed)

The RegularExpression pattern needs to be tweaked whenever Yahoo finance changes the page layout.

I try entering the line exactly as you have here, and it's not showing up in my wiki web (nothing shows up on the line where I place this command). Any ideas what I may be doing wrong? This is a corporate intranet wiki web that I'm trying to put this into, FYI, don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

This is exactly what I'm looking for, so I hope there's a way I can get it to work. Thank you much!

For testing try to INCLUDE the whole Yahoo page without the pattern. If that does not work your outgoing http is not working properly, possibly because of a proxy. Also, the pattern parameter is relatively recent, it might not be available in the TWiki version you are using.
