(My comments in TreePluginAppraisal were too big for the appraisal form, so I left smaller comments there, and linked here.)

This is the most useful and important plugin I have found. It is nearly always the first plugin that I install on a new twiki installation. My users say the same thing. Unfortunately, this plugin had problems when I first encountered it circa 2002, and does not appear to have been maintained much since then - a few of my fixes have been incorporated into the latest release 0.311, but not much more. In my most recent install I had to add methods TWik::Meta::findOne and TWik::Meta::_key to the TWiki source code, and fix icon paths. I suppose that I really should clean it up properly.

I thank the plugin author, SlavaKozlov, for the idea, and also for the implementation - I hope that my minor criticisms do not cause offence. I fault myself for not taking the initiative to fix it up. I really hope that TreePlugin is cleaned up, made part of the standard TWiki distribution, and extended in a few useful ways (such as specifying child order).|

I can only hope that this really great Plugin/Idea gets incorporated into the latest TWiki releases. The possibility to dynamically create something that helps the users to visualize the structure/parent-child-relation of the topics is so important that is should be an integral part of TWikis functionality. I have spend many hours by now to familiarize myself on how to best organize and strukture TWiki using Webs/Topics/Tags etc. and one of the first things i really missed was an easy way to dynamically visualize the parent/child relationship between the topics inside a web. Thank god i found this TreePlugin but it seems that this baby currently is not under active development. To bad i am not a perl-crack myself, so i can not support the further development of this. I can only hope that some the great TWiki developers here pick up this Plugin and make it "part of the standard TWiki distribution" as mentioned above. Its just the kind of usability/navigation feature that i think is very usefull for lots of people out here.

By the way - I have almost completely given up on TreePlugin. I now use my TopicTree approach to do what I need TreePlugin to do, and more.

Ah, well thanks. After reading your ideas about GeneralizingTopicTrees i'm going to keep my eyes on the stuff you're doing there. Sounds pretty interesting and a cool way to make it easier for users of TWiki to dynamically generate a visual representation of the topic-structure inside a (sub)web. I also like the idea of TopicMaps and using Graphs to generate interesting representations of possibly complex networked topic-structures and relations between them ... very interesting stuff smile
