XP Tracker Plugin Alternative Ideas

This topic was factored out from XpTrackerPluginDev by ThomasWeigert.

For what its worth, Ive been implementing an agile methodology project framework using twiki (the exact methodology is a bit agile in itself - it is closer to SCRUM than XP). Anyway, I've been trying to do it WITHOUT a special plugin and it actually does work (up to a point). The "code" is all TWiki topics in a separate web. It relies on the SpreadSheetPlugin and TablePlugin. The topics in my Agilemethod web consist of a variety of twiki form templates, template topics and html forms for topic creation, plus a bunch of topics that are %INCLUDE%ed int the templates. These included topics containing formatted searches (including nested ones and using search with and) to produce tables such as features in project, iterations in project, tasks in feature, tasks in iteration... I'm hoping that any additional features needed to support this project tracking system (it works as is but could use a few bells and whistles) can be developed as generically useful plugins. I'd be happy to share what I've done if it helps - I'm not trying to suggest that what I have is a direct "competitor" for XpTrackerPlugin - more a suggestion that a good direction might be to make as much of the detail of the system as possible as "pure TWiki" and just add plugins where needed for specific functions.

Aside from impl. details, I think having separate topics per task (and every other item in the system) is good - aside from the tracking info in the form metadata and the templated info it provides a place for wiki stuff to go - anything from a few words of description to links to related topics or... Not doing this isn't very wiki...

Another for what its worth.

An engineer here is leading the devlopment of an XPPM, XP Project Management, plugin (Im just helping with the overall strategy & use-cases). It is coming along very nicely. Ill attach a few snapshots below. The engineer plans to release this to the twiki community when it is a little more polished. But you can drool in the meantime... (I hope the inline images arent too obnoxious...)

DarrylGreen and JohnCavanaugh, I am looking forward to seeing your releases (hopefully soon).

Guys, just a quick update, but the developer (MichaelWong) for the XP-PM module (the aforementioned module) has sent the info to SourceForge to get it approved. After that the code will appear at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/xp-pm.
