I tried to pack a large command into a wiki variable, for later reusing. This seems to work okay, unless the command contains <verbatim>.
Example: I define
Set BEGINCODE=<verbatim style="color:#111166; padding-left:2em;">
Set ENDCODE = </verbatim>
When I use the said definitions as follows:
%BEGINCODE%
<Application
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation">
</Application>
%ENDCODE%
-- the resulting html includes <verbatim> tag (which is unknown to browsers). Is there some better way to define abbreviations for commands containing <verbatim>?
TWiki version is "02 Sep 2004 $Rev: 1742 $"

Discussion and Answer
I can't see why it isn't working for you: see
Support.SID-00297 for a working example that you can cut & paste from.

Isn't my TWiki too old?
%WIKIVERSION% at my side expands to "02 Sep 2004 $Rev: 1742 $", which doesn't look like 4.x.y.

And yes, your example is exactly what I need, thanks a lot!
At least I know that I am doing nothing wrong.

Yes, you need to upgrade to use this functionality.
