SID-02151: Watchlist Preferences - User unable to save changes

Status: Asked Asked TWiki version: 6.0.1 Perl version: Active Perl 5.20
Category: WatchlistPlugin Server OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Last update: 1 year ago

We are using TWiki 6.0 and have the Watchlist plugin enabled.

The plugin seems to be working fine, as users can watch and unwatch various webs or topics and they are listed in their watchlist.

Immediate notification is working, as the preferences default to immediate notification and the users are receiving notification emails whenever watched topics or webs change.

Users however are not able to change their watchlist preferences. When a user selects Digest and then clicks on the save preferences button, the web page refreshes to display the watchlist recently changed topics view, indicating to the user that the preference has been saved, but if the user then switches to the preferences tab, the old preference of immediate still has the bullet mark.

If i as administrator change the notification in the text file for the topic from n1 to n2 and then open my watchlist preferences, i can see that digest notification is now selected.

Secondly, as we are running on windows server, i have a batch file to call the Watchlistnotify script and when i run this manually, i can see that the script executes and displays that i has notified the users, but no mails are received.

Discussion and Answer

I have just tried to do this same thing on my watchlist here at TWiki.org, and when i change my preference to Digest and click save preferences, the selection doesn't get saved.

I looked into this. Indeed, it's a bug, tracked in TWikibug:Item7723. I fixed the plugin, new plugin version is available for download. Please update the plugin.

Peter,

Thanks for your fast response in fixing the plugin issue. I have deployed this fix to all my Wiki's and my users are now able to save their preferences.

In regards to the last part of my support request:

Secondly, as we are running on windows server, i have a batch file to call the Watchlistnotify script and when i run this manually, i can see that the script executes and displays that it has notified the users, but no mails are received.

I have set myself to digest mode, saved the preference, than made changes to a web I am watching. When I execute the Watchlistnotify script, I can see my name listed, but I do not receive a digest mail.

The connection to our mail server is working fine, as the Notify script manages to send daily change mails to the users, so I don't understand why the Watchlistnotify script is not managing to send any mails.

Any assistance you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks Regards Ben Dale

Make sure to test with another user. The user making the change is excluded from notification.
