Question

Hi all -- I am wanting to apply Preference variables to a template, which I will then use throughout a web. However, the docs indicate that Preferences only work at the Web and User level -- i.e. they can't be attributes of a topic template.

My use case is this:

Use the following preference variables in a topic template to eliminate the edit box for purely form-based topics:

SET EDITBOXHEIGHT = 0

SET EDITBOXWIDTH = 0

Help is appreciated! Thanks.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease04x02x03
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: CentOS
Web server: Apache
Perl version: 5.8.8
Client OS: WindowsXP
Web Browser: MozillaFirefox
Categories: Skin

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

You can set preferences settings on a page level; it will affect only the current page. This also works if put in a template topic, e.g. instantiated topics will inherit the preferences settings.

For special topics you can set a specific view template or edit template, e.g. you have control over how the page layout in view mode and edit mode. Study TWikiTemplates. See also PatternSkinCustomization.
