Refactoring -- what I tried to do:

  • Made URLs into "links" (not sure how to word this -- you'll see what I mean)
  • Showed any program only once, at the lowest age that it was recommended for (by whoever added it to the list -- often left notes like "and hs" or similar -- guessed when I was uncertain -- left a few "unclassified")
  • Put in alphabetical order by program name
  • If the same person recommended a program and included a comment, I combined them on the same line

Questions:

  • Should we change the age categories, and use the more modern "middle school" (and then "high school") terminology
    • Is 4 years of high school to big a grouping?

Potential future changes:

  • Group by subject (under age grouping)?

I didn't refactor everything -- left some things at the bottom -- may move them to another page.

I'm thinking that maybe this will become a piece of documentation that goes with the systems (a list of programs)

If we find programs that are written in Spanish, we should list those, possibly under another set of categories (AbiWord will work in Spanish)

Default Desktop

In previous discussions we have developed a standard look and feel for all the desktops. After some discussion Randy Plessor, Dann and I have come up with using the following:
  • (lf) Icewm as tha basic windowmanager
  • (lf) Rox-filer as the file and icon manager (after rethinking this though the icon manager used in VectorLinux may actually be dfm - need to check)
  • (lf) Last but not least is a standard desktop background just to make everything look uniform. Examples will be available soon on the cfk website at lvcfk.webhop.org
