%SECTION{summary}%An "index" page for discussions about the book "Crossing the Chasm".

Faber Fedor wanted to discuss this book on, for example, the lvlug list, so I started these pages and then went and borrowed the book from the local library. I've now skimmed the book, and I'm not terribly interested (for a reason, perhaps — more below). The book is about howto market high tech products, including the different market "segments" (?) that need to be considered (..., early adopters, ..., etc.) and particularly the difficulty (or the means to) deal with the transitions between those market segments (some of them deep, i.e. "the chasm").

I'll write to Faber (unless he sees this page and comments here) — any discussion (for me) would be much more interesting (read "likely to happen") if it was focused on a particular problem (i.e., a particular product that had to be shepherded across the chasm. I wonder if he is focusing on something in particular or is he (1) just trying to learn or (2) focusing on, for example, all of Linux.

BTW, this is the 2nd edition of the book, and, even so, some of the examples seem somewhat dated. I wonder if the first edition was any more compelling (despite the probably even older examples)?

Pages Discussing Crossing the Chasm

I propose we start each related page with the prefix "CtC" followed by something ("Chapter" and a number, chapter title, or word or phrase identifying an idea). As long as they are prefixed with CtC they will be automatically listed here (after I paste in the proper formatted search, in a hurry ATM).

  • Page Title: Summary

  • CtCTheSCurve: A somewhat whimsical (disposable?) page started primarily to test the formatted search on Crossing the Chasm . Hmm, that`s interesting, seems to be a bug somewhere...
