fsck: (File System ChecK) A Linux program to check and optionally repair a filesystem. See man fsck.

Actually, fsck is a general front end for filesystem specific fsck programs like e2fsck. When called, fsck will invoke the correct filesystem specific fsck program for the specific filesystem(s) to be checked.
