Android 4.2 Manuals

re: iRulu 10.1" Model AX105 with Android 4.2

I've had some trouble finding a manual, either specifically for the iRulu AX105 or for Android 4.2.

The tiny "User's Guide" that came with the tablet is too small for me to read with any degree of comfort (and, because of that, ready comprehension). Also, it appears to be for some version of Android other than 4.2 (based on some of the screenshots / pictures and descriptions). My guess is that it is for Android 4.0.

Android 4.2 Manuals

I found a manual for Android 4.2 for a different tablet (a PiPO Max-M6 tablet) which I've never heard of, but has many similarities to the iRulu AX105. The manual has been useful to me.

I did find a few discrepancies or questions:

  • At first, it seemed like the instructions to unlock the screen using the Slide Lock were incorrect. I now understand what I misunderstood at first--see Unlocking The Screen.

  • There are no instructions on how to reset, but a hint that you use the paperclip in the reset hole method. (Android 4.0 seems to require doing some combination of things with the Power and Volume Up buttons.) See System Resets.

Some (helpful??) quotations from that manual:

Troubleshooting 1. Can not turn on the tablet Check the tablet's power level; please charge it before starting it. In case your tablet still cannot be turned on, you may try to reset it

6. How to delete a Google account? If an account is added, the account is shown in "Accounts & sync" of "Settings", where you may also add another account. To delete an undesired account, go to "Settings" ==> "Privacy settings" ==> "Factory data reset". Your tablet's internal storage, downloaded apps, etc. will also be deleted, except the info in your flash memory. Be careful before you carry out this operation.

7.USB unmounted, SD card unmounted Some times after inserting SD card or USB, it will show on the tablet that "unmounted", do the factory reset by "setting" ==> "backup & factory reset"d, and then turn off and turn on tablet once again. If fail, you have to upgrade the firmware.

There are also instructions on doing things like:

  • moving applications on and off the home page (which, iiuc, is "under the line")
  • moving files to and from (RAM?), internal Flash, and an external SD card (with "Explorer")
  • upgrading the software: warnings: full battery charge, back up everything first--btw:
    • I probably need specific upgrade files from iRulu, as opposed to something generic
    • I think you need to do it while connected to a PC

Please download the "upgrade tool" from this PIPO website. Please download the corresponding firmware from PIPO website.

4. Load the USB driver included in the "RK batch tool" to install the USB driver. Note: Do not turn on "USB Debugging" in the setting when upgrading firmware.

<some stuff from the settings menu--looks like I might have to switch HDMI on and off??--I'm not sure that's true, see HDMI>

HDMI: Turn on HDMI, connect to the "HDMI" port via the HDMI cable. Screenshot setting: switch on or switch off screenshot here. The screenshot icon will appear on the status bar.

Storage: Check internal storage here. If you insert an Micro SD card, or USB disk, you can check the total and available space for your Micro SD card or USB disk. Please unmount it to safely remove it.

Battery: Check the Battery status here.

Language & input: to set language and keyboard input.

...<I wonder if the factory reset via the paperclip trick does any more than the below?--No, it has a different function, afaict--see System Resets.>

Backup & reset: choose to go to submenu "back up my data" and "Factory data reset". If you choose factory data reset, all data from your tablet's internal storage will be erased. Choose this option carefully.

Manual that came with the iRulu AX105

  • Tablet PC Android User Manual--this is not exactly the manual that came with the AX105, but it is pretty close. I've noticed a little additional text at the beginning, but then, it seems to have the same content as the "User's Guide" shipped with the tablet. This is not for Android 4.2, I suspect it is for Android 4.0.
