  • (rhk) Java's Cover; April, 2001; Paul Graham -- By his own statement of intent, this is not intended to be a (real, useful) article on Java, but instead an article on hacker's radar, and how a hacker might judge a book (language) by it's cover. For that purpose, the article should probably be listed somewhere else. Nevertheless, it does seem somewhat useful at making a first pass judgement about the suitability and long term survival of Java. (BTW, he notes that Java is recommended by the DOD -- the kiss of death wink

  • (rhk) Java Design Issues: A Conversation with Ken Arnold, Part VI; Bill Venners; update 1 Nov 2002 -- another article that may be useful for more than just Java (maybe oop in general -- add to OopLinks?) -- this specific section talks about making classes and methods final, which should be a very rare thing to do. Seems worth reading the whole series and all parts.

The Conversations area of Artima.com includes several interviews with software luminaries such as James Gosling, Jim Waldo, and Josh Bloch.
