This is a page created to receive comments about the Partition Rescue HOWTO I (JeanDanielDodin) write for the ldp.

Of course right now nobody knows of this page :-). It's here mainly for testing purpose. If ever you have any comments, feel free to use it.

Comments on the Partition Rescue HOWTO

Comments on This Page / Process

The first problem I see is that one must register to write comments (as long as I understand) - this should probably not be mandatory.

I know I'm tired of filling forms smile

I somewhat agree, but while on twiki.org I don't have the flexibility to change that. When WikiLearn moves to its own site (contemplated for three years now ;-( ), we can install the comment plugin and, for example, require authorization / authentication for editing but not for comments. (IIRC, once the comment is installed, we just write %COMMENT% on the page where we desire the comments to appear, perhaps set some options (chronological or reverse chronological order of comments), and then, on the "view page", readers will see a text box where they can enter comments without switching to edit mode. BTW, when I say "I somewhat agree", among other reasons, I chose TWiki as a wiki engine because it could (and currently on WikiLearn, does) require authorization for editing to minimize potential vandalism. If we would find a lot of vandalism (on a new site), we could always (AFAIK) require authorization for comments or delete the comment tag from all (or selected) pages.

BTW, glad to see you started this page. I am currently trying to use your HOWTO (among other things) to try to rescue the hard drive of my crashed mail server. I may have some comments when I'm done, and in any case, will probably want to create a summarized version in my own words, I will talk to you more about that later. -rhk

Don't hesitate to write to my e-mail jdanield (at) dodin.net

BTW, if you write your email "correctly", it is automatically obfuscated by a plugin installed at twiki.org: fakename@fakePLEASENOSPAM.domain — I guess that's not quite as secure as a manual obfuscation, as a robot could spider the edit page.

PS: You might want to sign up on the WebNotify page to get a daily email of changes. It might be annoying when I'm in heavy writing mode (some months 600 pages), but I've slowed down recently. Another choice is to periodically check the WebChanges page. (Unfortunately, TWiki currently cannot send an email change notification for a Sandbox.single page, but only for an entire web. If the LDP likes TWiki, I might (or the LDP can) ask PeterThoeny if he (and Sourceforge) would be willing to host a new web just for LDP stuff. -rhk

PPS: I thought about "reparenting" your page so that the "bread crumb trail" includes the AboutTheseHOWTOPages page. I will also move your page to the Wikilearn web, at least for the time being. (I'll do that in a few hours, I have to leave now.) Note that pages like this should not be installed in the Main web as that is reserved for user and group pages, and the Sandbox web is subject to deletion. After I move your page to the Wikilearn web it will automatically show up in the "index" on AboutTheseHOWTOPages. (And, most of the links on this page with question marks will be "resolved".)

Thank you!
