One of the files that can be edited to include commands to be executed during bootup of a Linux system. In one sense, I think it is a preferred location -- maybe because it doesn't depend on which runlevel is booting, and because it is among the last things to be done (the system is mostly fully started when it runs rc.local.

Alternate expressions of this page name for search purposes:

Aside: I wonder if I should rename pages like this (that name a file including its path) to the file name without the path, and then, in the description, say something like the standard location for this file (under the FHS (or LSB)) is such and such.
