Web Hosting Services

  • Virtual Servers; Packages from $15/mo — looks like a reasonable possibility, not the cheapest, but not bad, they sound intelligent and reasonable, $15/month gets you root access on a FreeBSD virtual server, with about 400 MB of free space (after BSD), 5 GB / month Bandwidth, extra space or bandwidth is $3 per GB, means to stop transfer at 5 GB, free static IP, backup DNS I forget what I need to know re a domain name, doesn't sound like they sell them

Colocation Services

  • the california community colocation project -- "If you represent a not-for-profit endeavor that seeks to have a web presence, an email account, or a rackmount server of your own, we'd love to help you;", but later: "Our continued operations are dependent upon those who use our service making donations that at least match what it costs us to host them (around $50 a month for every server we host), which most people have been very good about doing." (Still, that is less than costs I recall for colocation services.)
