It will play nice with Postfix and there are some other options. Have to leave in a few minutes, I'll get back to you with some links later.

IIUC, the key to using Postfix is to use the compatible command "sendmail" that comes with Postfix. (The other options include using some kind of Perl smtp module. Like I say, I'll get you some more links a little later.)

Some notes:

  • The following links may give you some hints. They may not be exactly on point, because I don't know whether you are working on the email response for registration or for WebNotify. The thing I was fishing for earlier is the Net::SMTP module. (Which I didn't use -- the links below, especially the first, chronicle my first problems with registration and email. I am not using the Net::SMTP module, and you will see that I had to modify the code slightly to make things work.) I believe I got email to work at one time, but, since I am not running an email server on my private LAN (at this time), it is not obvious whether it is currently working or not.
  • There should be some documentation about the normal course of events on the TWiki web, and I once posted a question (on TWiki) related to email and the cron job for WebNotify, IIRC -- I'll try to find than and post it -- first I'll email you and tell you about this page.
