WhoWhatWhen
peterthoenyoink: the other day you had an access control question. resolved? [00:47]
oinkno, but we're moving up the change control for ldap authentication [00:48]
peterthoenyyea, in a corporate settings it is always good to centralize authentication
do you have many users on twiki?
[00:49]
oinkwe have 14 systems to log into on a single shift. I'm all for using SSO
there are only about 20 of us that actually use it regularly. we use it for our shift logs and to keep our processes and procedures updated.
[00:50]
peterthoenygood use of twiki
if needed, http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Support/LdapAuthenticationHowTo has docs on ldap config
twiki.net can help you out if you wish
[00:52]
oinkI'll take all the help I can get. another analyst and I wear a second hat and admin the servers. [00:54]

gordhoHowdy. Having some problems with verbatim rendering. When I edit a topic that has a verbatim block the text in the verbatim area changes. I think it might be due to the fact that there is a " in the text. Any ideas? [15:41]

cythman everytime I upload to this topic the cpu usage and memory usage on 'upload' skyrocket [18:07]
............ (idle for 56mn)
peterthoenycyth: not sure
what platform?
(server)
[19:03]
cythlinux
I think I found the issue
the topic looks corrupted
I mean I can't even open up the text file in vim without locking it up
or even less!
looks like they uploaded a bad PDF
[19:07]
peterthoenyoh [19:08]
cythwith a bad corrupted path name [19:08]
peterthoenyother files ok? [19:08]
cythI think so
I am trying to figure out how to get rid of this attachement though from the topic
I can't even open up an editor
[19:08]
peterthoenytwiki is automagically stripping illegal chars from the filename on upload
delete the attachment: manage link -> delete
[19:08]
cythwow I had to kill -9 less ...
attach is taking about 85% cpu and 25% of memory right now o.O
90 now
I hope deleting the attachement doesn't run out of memory
or crash my browser like it seems to want to...
[19:09]
peterthoenyyou can delete also on the file level [19:11]
cythwell I can delete the file yes
but the topic is still corrupted
[19:12]
peterthoenynever seen a file upload eating up that much cpu and memory
are you in the twikiadmingroup?
[19:12]
cythwho ever added this file, I'm banning them from twiki forever
:p
peterthoeny, yes
peterthoeny, I never seen a file crash vim or less ...
I might have to delete the whole topic and tell them to start over
[19:12]
peterthoenythere is an undocumented command to fix topics using browser
more or less like a vi as root
edit the page and add a cmd=repRev to the edit url
[19:13]
cythlet me give that a shot
after I kill my browser and restart it
[19:14]
peterthoenydo your edits, e.g. remove the offending %META:FILEATTACHMENT line
that removes the meta data of he attachment
you still need to delete the actual attachment
[19:15]
cythyeah I'll do that [19:16]
peterthoenyon file level remove the attachment and ,v file, located in twiki/pub/Yourweb/YourTopic/
do you have many twiki users?
public? private twiki?
[19:16]
cythit's a company wiki, about 300 users
internal
browser is still trying to open the repRev command
to give you an idea of the corruption, there is probably 1k worth of topic data and about 15 attached files
and the topic is 64MB
on the filesystem
o.O
[19:18]
peterthoenywhat??? [19:23]
cythstill loading
the TopicName.txt on the fs is 64MB
the topic text is about 1k worth, and about 15 attached files
[19:23]
peterthoenycan you open it in vi? [19:23]
cythno
I can't
crashes vi
it crashes less
[19:23]
peterthoenywow
do you have a backup of that file?
[19:23]
cythabout as far as I get in less is one file and I am seeing binary in the path="" of the bad file...
I have to ask the author
I am sure they do
[19:24]
peterthoenyi was thinking more about a twiki file system backup
to restore that one topic from the backup
are you the twiki admin at your company?
[19:25]
cythyes
there is a backup, but I have to ask sysadmin about it
[19:26]
peterthoenyif restore from backup not feasible, try different editor like emacs [19:26]
cyththe editor cmd finally worked
down to 14k now
anyway I can do the same to the ,v file?
[19:27]
peterthoenydo you see text for 64mb worth or 1kb? [19:27]
cythis it safe to get rid of it if I don't care about past revisions? [19:27]
peterthoenyyes, but that will remove all history
there is another option:
add a cmd=delRev parameter to the edit url
this will permanently remove the _top_ revision of the topic
useful to get rid of spam on public twikis
this command is also restricted to admins
for obvious reasons
do you consider your twiki deployment as a success?
[19:28]
cythyes
we have about 50 webs now
[19:30]
peterthoenyplease consider writing a success stroy. http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Main/TWikiSuccessStories [19:31]
cythand I don't really have to admister it too often, which is great, cuz the responsibilities are kind of messed up right now. and I have other responsibilities
I'll keep that in mind, we are Wolfram Research btw
if you heard of us
[19:31]
peterthoenymath software? [19:32]
cythyeah
also famous for WolframAlpha which is one of Time's top 20 sites of 2009
[19:33]

cythokay got everything working again, I really appreciate your time. [19:42]
