oink | I just finished upgrading our twiki version to 4.3.2 and now when I upload attachments i get the error "during save of Main.WebHome and error was found by the version control system. Please notify your TWiki administrator." | [06:14] |
ko6yq-lt | Check your Apache error log file for more info... | [06:14] |
oink | /usr/bin/rcs -i -t-none -kb %FILENAME7#124;F7#37: of .../Webhome/ name of my image | [06:15] |
ko6yq-lt | does that mean you found/solved the problem or are trying to describe it? | [06:16] |
oink | I was still typing the rest of the error message, I'm browsing to the error logs now... | [06:17] |
ko6yq-lt | ok | [06:17] |
oink | sorry, I'm looking but the only log I see is the monthly log. Do you happen to know where the error logs are stored by default?
sorry, just found them. I thought you were referencing some internal twiki error log. | [06:25] |
ko6yq-lt | usually in /var/log/httpd but it sounds like you found it | [06:29] |
oink | i've looked in /var/log/apache2 logs and in the /srv/www/htdocs/wiki/data warn and log files and don't see anything from today
I can attach to our HowTo web but not our Main or Training | [06:33] |
ko6yq-lt | OK, next thing to check is the file it was trying to write - does the web server user have access to write to it?
If so, you may want to check if SELinux is enforicing on your system. | [06:34] |
.... (idle for 18mn) | ||
oink | Ok, I should be looking at the permissions for files in the /data dir right? | [06:53] |
ko6yq-lt | yes. each web is underneath there.
the visible page is in TopicName.txt, but there's also the RCS file in TopicName.txt,v the directory and the files need to be writable by the user that the web server is running as | [06:54] |
oink | the files are -rw- r--r-- and the ,v files are -r--r--r-- | [06:55] |
ko6yq-lt | the RCS (,v) files are OK as long as they're owned by the correct user for the web server to have access | [06:55] |
oink | the permissions are the same in my old version | [06:56] |
ko6yq-lt | OK
is SELinux running on the system> | [06:56] |
oink | yes | [06:56] |
ko6yq-lt | enforcing?
"cat /selinux/enforce" to check | [06:56] |
oink | I'm on SuSE i'm checking if apparmor is running, there isn't an admin for our server so another analyst and I get to wear another hat. | [07:00] |
*** | fr_ has joined #twiki | [07:04] |
oink | would this have affected an upgrade? I have to put in a raised floor access request to get physical access to the server and the Novell AppArmor tab in YaST is hung... I wish they would let us run debian
We have Three servers running and only the primary is having this issue | [07:14] |
ko6yq-lt | SELinux can affect just about anything if it hasn't been configured to allow it.
It has its uses. But it needs care and feeding. I use Fedora so these paths may differ... if you have setroubleshootd installed, check its logs under /var/log to see if it might have interfered. You can also check /var/log/messages for hints if SELinux has been restricting Apache or TWiki Maybe this isn't it. Without seeing it in the logs, that's all still just one guess. | [07:17] |
oink | ok, i see a trend here. I can attach to the Main, Sandbox, and TWiki webs but not any of our old webs that we copied into the /wiki dir. | [07:21] |
ko6yq-lt | Ah... SELinux may want to relabel the files.
OK, I looked up a bit about AppArmor. I see that it's an alternative to SELinux, not another name for it. So I don't know what effect it would have. So the permissions look correct on those directories that you copied but can't use from TWiki? If so, then AppArmor is a possible culprit. The point of "mandatory access control" is to use policies to override an administrator's discretionary access control, and possible mistakes or misuse from it. But mislabeled files can look like instant policy violations. well, I've got to call it a night... | [07:21] |
oink | that could be it, I'll try to google a way to restart the Novell AppArmor module in yast
Thanks for your help | [07:28] |
ko6yq-lt | you're welcome. too bad we didn't find a more concrete answer. But not being out of ideas any more seems to be an improvement. | [07:28] |

RobIB | Ok..how do I look that up?
I don't have direct server access...running in hosted enviorment | [16:45] |
Dae` | what twiki version are you running? | [16:47] |
RobIB | Is the tempdir set by twiki or my hosting enviorment | [16:47] |
Dae` | Dae` does not have twiki around here...
I think it might be set in the configure general settings or something like that | [16:47] |
RobIB | I'm running 4.3.2 | [16:49] |
Dae` | ok :B
anything in configure? | [16:49] |
RobIB | don't see anything
just template dir not temp | [16:50] |
Dae` | working dir?
well check your file-level permissions then.. what host is it? | [16:51] |
RobIB | yes i see that
set everything to 777 IXweb | [16:52] |
Dae` | well...
not too safe but it's your installation :) | [16:52] |
RobIB | Problem started our of the blue
Who would you recommend? :) | [16:52] |

I can FTP no prob now I surly changed something...but I see nothing in the logs | [16:53] |
Dae` | x) | [16:54] |
RobIB | What elese would I change beside permissions to 777 | [16:55] |
Dae` | well check the permissions
what are they? | [16:55] |
RobIB | 777 | [16:55] |
Dae` | and that didn't work?
you set the permissions to 777 in the whole installation? recursively? | [16:55] |
RobIB | not the whole install..thought that was a little crazy. | [16:56] |
Dae` | well where then? | [16:57] |
RobIB | yes recursivley

Dae` | hmm | [17:01] |
*** | venmx has quit IRC () | [17:03] |

Dae` | Your temp-directory is the culprit | [17:04] |
RobIB | And that is different from the working directory? | [17:04] |
Dae` | apparently it is in the root (linux) and should be writable by all users
so it's /tmp can't see any setting for it in twiki | [17:05] |
RobIB | we agree on that! :) | [17:06] |
Dae` | uhoh :) | [17:06] |

RobIB | so..I'm relly slow...but in a hosting enviorment do everyone write to that directory? | [17:10] |
Dae` | hmm I wonder if you can set TempfileDIr
TempfileDir | [17:10] |
RobIB | wher
where | [17:11] |
Dae` | LocalSite.cfg
? :] | [17:11] |
RobIB | ok..i follow you
what would I change? | [17:14] |
Dae` | just set the tempfile dir in the cfg file? | [17:14] |
RobIB | located in the lib dir correct? | [17:14] |
Dae` | yes, that's where it is in my installation | [17:14] |
RobIB | next really dumb question
what would the exact text for that be | [17:15] |
Dae` | go for it
mm.. not a dumb question. | [17:15] |
RobIB | wheres peter when we need him. :) | [17:16] |
Dae` | $TWiki::cfg{TempfileDir} = '/your/path/to/twiki/tmp'; | [17:18] |
twikibot | http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/:cfg | [17:18] |
Dae` | thanks bot, but no :B
make sure that dir exists then :P and has good permissions 4.1.2 seems to have tempfiledir in configure... | [17:19] |
RobIB | bot thing throwing me off... | [17:22] |
Dae` | the tmp dir should be under the working dir though
or that's what it says in 4.3.2 configure says {WorkingDir}/tmp/ - used for security-related temporary files (these files can be deleted at any time without permanent damage) so you can try creating that tmp dir under working dir also One of these things is BOUND to work :D | [17:22] |
RobIB | Is it '' or "" in the LocalSite.cfg
' ' | [17:26] |
Dae` | '' is fine
is there nothing else there? the file does exist right? | [17:30] |
RobIB | Yeap | [17:30] |
Dae` | there should be all your configs | [17:30] |

this look right? $TWiki::cfg{TempfileDir} = "/wiki/working/tmp"; | [17:31] |
twikibot | http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/:cfg | [17:32] |

do you have any space left? | [17:32] |

why would it just stop | [17:33] |

what is there in working/tmp? | [17:34] |
