rhysI paste into twiki from notepad. It puts every line with a <br /> between it. I go to then edit that pasted thing in twiki. it puts a big space between each line. this ends up making my blocks of text look horrible. how do i fix this? [19:26]
PeterThoenyi have never seen this
rhys: did you try to paste into raw edit mode?
[19:27]
rhysnope.
wait. when i say notepad, I mean gedit.
[19:28]
PeterThoenyand gedit, is this ritch text or plain old ascii? [19:29]
rhysplain old ascii [19:29]
PeterThoenyso not rich text [19:29]
rhysas in there are no formatting buttons in the program, and when I save it as a text file, I can open it in VIM in the same way. [19:30]
PeterThoenytry to raw edit the twiki topic and paste there
well, if you have the option to save without formatting it means that the clipboard format has most likely rich text _and_ plain text
[19:30]
rhyslol. then it puts all the lines together on one line.
no. there is no option to 'save without formatting.' there is 'save'. this program is raw ascii
[19:31]
PeterThoenywhen you paste this into wysiwyg editor, the edtor takes the rich text version of the clipboard
there is a bug somewhere in that chain
[19:31]
rhysi have had nothing but problems with Twiki, and I keep thinking I'm doing it wrong, but I don't think that my use case of 'use twiki like versioned notepad' is wrong
but i can't go from twiki<->gedit/vim without all sorts of problems. raw or unraw edits.
is this not how I should be using twiki?
[19:34]
PeterThoenywhy do you use an external editor and not the raw edit of the broswer?
it seems like a lot of extra woro to copy back and forth
"extra work"
[19:38]
............ (idle for 59mn)
rhysYeah. thus concluding that Twiki is not really the tool for us. I expect any tool that I use to allow me access to advance features without breaking more simple interfaces.
and yeah, interacting with VIM, gedit, git, plain text email is all something that should 'just work'
[20:38]
PeterThoenytwiki is open source, people have done all kinds of integrations with twiki
have you searched twiki.org?
[20:39]
rhys...its ascii text. if it needs an 'integration' its broken. just like how if you past ReST or Markdown into normal editor, it works just fine. from a design stand point, they degrade gracefully.
eh. I appreciate the help.
