When the Game Boy Advance was announced at the Space World 2000 Expo back in August 2000, the company blew the doors open and revealed a ton of information on several games – but the one title the company barely hinted at was the Game Boy Advance version of a SNES classic: F-Zero. It was revealed as a tiny postage stamp-size image in the Space World brochure – no details, no date, no nothing. We've waited for a bit more news on the product, and we finally got it…and if you're a fan of the super-speedy SNES racer, then we're sure you're going to find lots to love in this conversion. F-Zero on the SNES was designed as a showcase for the system's pseudo-3D capabilities (known as Mode-7), but the game wasn't just a pretty face – it was one of the fastest and most challenging racing games of its time. And it only makes sense for a game like that one to make the trip to the similarly-capable Game Boy Advance hardware – it's a true test of the system's hardware…if the GBA can do F-Zero right out of the gate, just wait until the developers really get up to speed on the hardware. The Game Boy Advance version of F-Zero will take place 25 years after the SNES storyline – but you'll still be able to race as Captain Falcon or any of the other racers from the original. Many vehicles will remain locked and hidden until you can prove yourself and place first in the game's many circuits of varying difficulty. You'll have a few speed-boosts to take advantage of during the race, but if you go too fast you might find yourself flying off the track and turning into roadside scenery. F-Zero for the Game Boy Advance is as close to the SNES game as you can get on the handheld – sure, Nintendo's already wowed the nation with a fully 3D polygonal version on the Nintendo 64…but the SNES game is the real deal, baby. None of those crazy corkscrews or outside-riding tubes to make you all disoriented and dizzy. This is straight-forward, balls-out, powersliding hoverracing against multiple alien opponents. There's a reason why the series is such a hot-seller, and you'll find out when you wrap your mitts around a system and hit the accelerator. The <b>one feature </b> that'll make this game a must-have is its support for four players, thanks to the use of the system's multiplayer link cable. This game will indeed support the "downloadable" link-cable feature where you'll only need one cartridge -- but this single cartridge link will only work with specific tracks. To get the full multiplayer experience, each player will need his own cartridge. F-Zero is due out in Japan with the launch of the system – March 21, 2001. Expect a launch release in the states as well.
