I have translated all user interface strings into Swedish, but I haven't done extensive proofreading or testing. Any help with that would be much appreciated.

The translation file for 4.2 has just been added to Bugs:Item4551.

A number of the terms used in the TWiki user interface were difficult to translate (or rather they would sound ridiculous if translated literally). Some of the choices made are documented below.

in my opinion "ämne" translates to "subject" which is closer to "topic" than the danish translation using "side"

thus:

• index becomes "alla ämnena" or literally "all subjects"
• sidomenu would become more meaningful and less confused by the double use of "sida"
• topic ämne or literally subject
• topic template becomes "ämnemall" ?

An updated Swedish translation for 5.1 was submitted (to Bugs:Item6712) on Friday 12 Aug. 2011. It was made by me and based upon the previous version by ErikAman.

The translation was edited using poedit, but since I have been/was/still is unfamiliar with po-files, there may well be errors in it. Also, I am not personally using a localized version of TWiki and for this reason testing has not been performed. Any help with finding errors, typos and other lapses would therefore be appreciated. I have made certain general changes to the previous translation. See below.

Swedish Terminology

In working on the translation to 5.1 I found some of the decisions made by the first translator impractical. In most cases, I think that the first translation did a good job of using the Swedish language rather than just translating literally. However, I agree with the comment by TravisBarker below that the translation of "topic" as "sida" is very confusing. It seemed better to use "ämne", even though this concept is usually used for other things in Swedish. (Perhaps "inlägg" might be a better choice?) In this version, topic is translated into ämne (and phrases like "topic template" into "ämnesmall" etc).

Now, the following words relate to "sida":

* page -> sida

* home -> förstasida

* homepage -> förstasida

* profile page -> profilsida

I have also changed the previous "referenser hit/från" for backlinks to the more unwieldy "tillbakalänkar" or "länkar tillbaka från" in order to connect to the general use of the word "länk" to denote link. Cf. suggestion for "link" at Svenska datatermgruppen.

Some words or concepts I found difficult, and discussion of these (and others) would be welcome:

registration -> registrering

token -> token

tags -> taggar

view [noun] -> vy (for example in book view, previously translated as "boklayout" now changed to "bokvy")
