Question

  • TWiki version: Dec 2001
  • Perl version: ActivePerl 5.8.0 build 804
  • Web server & version: Sambar Server 4.3
  • Server OS: Win NT
  • Web browser & version: n/a
  • Client OS: n/a

I just installed TWiki and followed these directions:

http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki/TWikiDocumentation#Enabling_Authentication_of_Users

http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki/TWikiInstallationGuide#Enabling_Authentication_of_Users

I tried registering and got this error message:

Software error:

Undefined subroutine &main::encode_base64 called at e:\twiki\bin\register line 200.

Right now, I'm thinking--should I move the site to Apache?

Answer

You need to edit the register script as mentioned in WindowsInstallCookbook (step 5) - this is fixed in the TWikiBetaRelease of course. This isn't a web server issue, but the cookbook and most TWiki installs are based on Apache.

For those who have never heard of Sambar before, it is a Windows web server and nothing to do with the Samba server (for file serving) - see http://www.sambar.com/. -- RichardDonkin - 15 Jan 2003
