Question

My company currently allows Guest access for View. There is "discussion" on changing this but as it stands now, I'm stuck with what we've got. So, I'm usually a guest until I try to edit something. :-(

But I have some user preferences (e.g. I changed my color scheme) that I'd like to use every time I access the site. I don't want to be TWikiGuest; I want to be me (I Gotta be me!)

Is there a better (i.e. recommended )way to force a login other than to click the Edit button on some page? That seems like a pretty lame and non-intuitive workaround.

Feature request - please add a Login link. Many sites (especially eCommerce sites) have them. People are familiar with Login links and know to look for them.

Answer

take a look at SessionPlugin, I think it may do what you want (I haven't used it myself).

Two things need to be done: (oops, initially I typed "TWo", deformation professionel)

  • Enable session tracking: Use the Plugin Matt mentioned or use the $doRememberRemoteUser flag in TWiki.cfg (see TWikiUserAuthentication)
  • Add a login link to your skin:
    • Write: [[%SCRIPTURL%/viewauth%SCRIPTSUFFIX%/%INCLUDINGWEB%/%INCLUDINGTOPIC%][Login]]
    • to get: Login
    • You can make that more fancy with a conditional SpreadSheetPlugin formula to greet the user with "Welcome FirstLast" if already logged in.
