Whenever I configure TOPICPERMISSIONS on a topic for a user or group to be an editor, it sets ALLOWTOPICVIEW as well as ALLOWTOPICCHANGE. So it locks everyone out of a topic when configuring editors.
So for example when I say JoeBloggs is an editor it sets JoeBloggs as the viewer and it also sets the user value twice in the topic see below:
%META:PREFERENCE{name="ALLOWTOPICVIEW" title="PREFERENCE_ALLOWTOPICVIEW" type="Set" value="JoeBloggs JoeBloggs"}%
%META:PREFERENCE{name="ALLOWTOPICCHANGE" title="PREFERENCE_ALLOWTOPICCHANGE" type="Set" value="JoeBloggs JoeBloggs"}%
Don't know if this is relevant, but I'm using
LdapContrib for user authentication with
$TWiki::cfg{PasswordManager} = 'TWiki::Users::LdapUser';
$TWiki::cfg{UserMappingManager} = 'TWiki::Users::LdapUserMapping';
$TWiki::cfg{PasswordManager} = 'TWiki::Users::LdapUser';
I've disabled all the other plugins to rule out interop problems, but the problem persists.
There is nothing particulalry relevant in the logs that I can find, but happy to post any extra info about environment if req'd.

I'm having the same problem. Running twiki version 5.0.0 and am not using the
LdapContrib like the originator.

This looks like a bug in
WebPermissionsPlugin. TWiki is open source, you can take and contribute back. I invite you to
get involved with the community. You could also hire a consultant to fix the issue for you.
