Hello everyone! I have just joined on with a new company as IT support and they have been using TWiki for some time. Unfortunately the old IT guy did not leave detailed notes on how to access the management features of TWiki and I'm having a hard time just trying to add myself as a user. The rest of the company has current accounts but I'm going to need to add new users at some point so you can imagine why its important for me to be able to get into the entire system.
When I go to the wiki page and try the automated user registration, fill out the info and click register, it takes me to a page saying it could not send the email, registration failed, and to contact the IT department (gives old email address) for assistance. Well, i'm the IT department lol.
So it appears that either there is a problem with the registration scripts or they have been disabled, or outbound email has been disabled. I'm not familiar enough with TWiki to be able to play around with the files from within Fedora (I do have root access).
Is there a way to register new users through Fedora under the root account or another Fedora user account? Are the problems i'm having common or do you guys think there might be something broken inside the system?
The Fedora box is actually a VM (not that it should matter), and i'm not sure on exactly what version of TWiki we are running but i would imagine it would be fairly up to date.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Discussion and Answer
Run the configure script and set the {SMTP} settings to match your mail server setup. Alternatively, edit the configuration file
twiki/lib/LocalSite.cfg on the shell level.
Login as admin in TWiki and put your
WikiName into the TWikiAdminGroup.
If you do not have the admin password, wipe out the
{Password} setting in
LocalSite.cfg.

ok so i've been trying to get in and still can't. i log into the twiki machine using putty ssh into root account. i do a quick cd {ENTER}. After a "ls" command i can see that i have a folder called "Twiki" exactly like that (assuming this is the install directory?). when i go into that folder i see a few directories and a bunch of files. Directories include: bin, data, lib, locale, pub, templates, and tools. the files are a bunch of stull like AUTHORS, INSTALL.html, COPYING, COPYRIGHT, etc. when i cd into the lib directory as suggested by Peter i dont see the
LocalSite.cfg file he's referring too. all i have in that directory is Assert.pm, CPAN, DEPENDENCIES, TWiki, TWiki.pm, and TWiki.spec. am i missing some files here? if i run the configure script will it remove current settings? becasue i can't really afford to interupt service to the users and since i'm not that familiar with Twiki yet i'm not that comfortable rebuilding it...

From the TWiki root, change to the
lib subdirectory. It has the
LocalSite.cfg file.

awesome! finally got it and was able to fix the smtp settings which allowed me to register myself as a user.
in the
LocalSite.cfg file the Twiki::cfg{Password} = '' ; is now set to blank as shown here... but i'm unclear as to what password this is removing? and how to set it back up again? there doesn't seem to be a direct user account pointed at that password so i'm assuming its for the admin or admin group... how can i configure this again thorugh the web browser? thanks.

This is the user who can make changes to the configuration using the configure script. The first time you use configure from the browser you can set a new password. This login also works for user
admin in TWiki, provided the password is not empty.
I invite you to get involved with the TWiki community. As a contributor you can actively make a difference and help shape the product. Learn
