New 6.0.2 installation; user registration was working, but suddenly stopped, and started getting this "Oops" error with every login attempt. Last things done before I noticed this problem was to install a few plugins, including DBCache.

Discussion and Answer
Additional information:
Users were migrated from an older TWiki system; these users cannot login.
New users registered in current system; these users can login perfectly.
Noticed a change in the .htpasswd file. Each line now contains name:password:email:0:0
(for the new users registere in current system, the last field is 1453306466)

Well, a little more information: At least one user migrated from the older system can still login.
I am beginning to think this problem is isolated to
MY user id!

Have you upgraded from Cairo (or an older) TWiki version? In that case, an extra step is required: After Cairo, user's mail addresses have been moved from the users page to the
.htpasswd file, to protect their privacy in public installations. A script
tools/upgrade_emails.pl in your installation should fix this.
See
TWikiUpgradeGuide for the authoritative source.

Thanks, but .htpasswd already had the email addresses. Reread and you will note that I had successfully logged on several times, and then suddenly, I could no longer do so.
Fortunately, I may have resolved this for myself. I could not login, and I could not
change my password, but TWiki allowed me to
reset it, and I could successfully login using the new password, and change it back to the original password.
I have only two questions remaining.
- Is this isolated to my user? I guess I'll know when I open the system for others to use.
- What went wrong? I doubt I'll ever know.

Not sure what went wrong. I am closing this question.
