Question

When moving data over from a Cairo installation to a 4.2 installation, certain characters got transformed. Example:

This can be usefull if a setup doesnâ%u20AC%u2122t want to waste memory when all variable

from:

This can be usefull if a setup doesn't want to waste memory when all variable

I think these are simply control characters from word paste ins in the past, but these worked in the previous version. They show up differently on each topic they occur in.

I am wondering if:

A)This is known about and expected or whether there's something possibly misconfigured that normally supports that syntax and did in the previous version.

B)Any good ways of fixing this kind of issue on Twiki?

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease04x02x00

Server OS: WinXP
Web server: Apache 2.2.8/Mod-Perl2.0.4
Perl version: 5.10.0
Client OS: WinXP
Web Browser: Firefox

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

It looks like the new TWiki install is configured to use a different character set to the Cairo install. Your topics are stored in whatever character set you specify, and judging from the example you give, your old TWiki was configured for utf-8.

That's good to know. Thanks, Crawford.
