Question
We want to change the parent of a twiki Topic. And this can be done by selecting "more actions" on the current twiki Topic page and choosing a new Parent Topic.
THE BIG PROBLEM...
The parent topic resets to the original parent every time we re-edit that topic. It's a major pain.
NOTE: That original parent is actually what should be the Grand Parent topic. (maybe there's some weird setting in that Grand Parent that auto sets all containing topics to having itself as the Parent)
So The topic keeps resetting to:
ORIGINAL PARENT > TOPIC
We want:
ORIGINAL PARENT > PARENT > TOPIC
what are we doing wrong here? could this be a bug.

Answer
If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.
I have never seen this before. Could you attach the .txt and .txt,v file of the topic to this topic? If confidential content, remove that before attaching (or send the files to me)

I wish I could, but it's on a company documentation server (they're not going to let me do that).

Is there any kind of setting that can force all grand children of a topic to become children? maybe ??

It is difficult to debug without more data. Could you give a hint on the name of the parent topic and grandparent topic?
BTW, you can get at the raw topic content as stored on disk by appending
?raw=debug to the view URL.

Thanks, it helps with, but I do not know why your parent gets reset to empty. One thing is odd though, your examples list metadata like
%META:TOPICPARENT{}%, e.g. empty topic parent metadata. When you remove a parent the whole topic parent metadata goes away.
Lets see if somebody else has more ideas.

We are having the exact same issue. Each time a topic is edited, the parent topic information is lost.

I am not aware of any issue with this. Could be related to non-standard skin? TWiki upgrade issue missing old and new parts of the TWiki engine and skin?
