Feature Proposal: Add WysiwygPlugin to Dakar
In
Bugs:Item612
, Sven states that "the Wysiwyg editor is not going out with Dakar at all". I am very puzzled about this. A
WYSIWYG editor is nowadays expected in a wiki. We cannot afford
not to ship Dakar with this Plugin. What is the reason?

This is a
CompetitiveNecessity. Crawford, Sven, could you comment?

I didn't plan to release it because I knew that the release would be delayed as we went through the development cycle on the plugin. Dakar has now almost caught up with that cycle, but the fact remains that I have not formally released the plugin, and it still require a lot of work. Tying
DakarRelease to it is not a good idea for that reason.
Another factor is that from a personal perspective, I have far too much to do to make
DakarRelease a reality already.

This is a
CompetitiveNecessity and some time passed. I think we can take this into Dakar and label it as
Beta (important to set the right expectations; we did the same labelling for
RcsLite with success)

I was reading the IRC log in
DakarReleaseMeeting2005x12x17 the concerns about including this plugin in Dakar, even if it is labelled as Beta.
Much software that is called "Beta" these days is actually very stable.
Some software even seems to be in permanent beta.
The word has become vague, it can mean anything from stable but not including all the features we intend for the full release, to feature complete but buggy.
Instead of Beta I'd suggest calling it a
Technology Preview.
The word Preview conveys that it's not ready run on production systems (i.e. buggy), but that it's representative of what the finished product will be capable of (i.e. Feature Complete). You could then state what people's expectations of it should be and when a final release is likely to be available, which should encourge admins to start testing it but hold off introducing it to their users until the stable release is available.

It was finished in time (though there remain refinements to be done)
