OK, but bear in mind that Dakar doesn't have locks, it has leases which are advisory only (though they can still be broken).

The main issue with this proposal is the cleanliness of the architecture for finding out the email address of a user. I think that may require a plugins API extension (or exposure of the User object to plugins).
