These are some notes I took during my work on the
GermanTranslation of some educational TWiki topics. I came across some phrases that either I am not sure about or which would require a fixed term that gets used throughout the translated material.
Regard this as a RFD as well as a collection of recipes for further translations.
- english - proposed german translation; comment/caveats
Caps
- TWiki Shorthand - TWiki Kurzschrift; is not quite correct, I think, but the best concise term I could think of.
- I used TWiki-Syntax in my German translation - this term contrasts well with HTML-Syntax. -- ChristianKohl - 07 Jan 2004
- I just realized that I implicitly tried to circumvent any connotation of 'programming'. Some people at our department that came across Wiki but where not correctly introduced to it had the notion that they needed some programming skills to use Wiki. -- PatrickHansmeier - 08 Jan 2004
a
- access control - Zugriffsregel/-n/-ung/-ungen; this applies to the rules, not the scripts executing the control, which would be Steuerung.
b
- bullet list - Stichpunktliste, Liste von Stichpunkten;
- Auflistung (im Gegensatz zu Aufzählung, Definitionsliste ...) -- ChristianKohl - 07 Jan 2004
c
- collaboration - kollektive Zusammenarbeit, Kollaboration; koll.Z.arbeit is partly redundant and I am not happy with Kollaboration
- collaboration platforms - Gruppenarbeitsplattformen;
- Kollaborations-/Kooperationsplattform -- ChristianKohl - 07 Jan 2004
- corporate offices - Standorte; IMO this correctly conveys the meaning of 'location', as opposed to the literal Unternehmensbüros, which applies to the individual rooms.

- parent - Hierarchieverknüpfung; fits in a certain context of the GerTranTWikiTutorial, will be too complicated otherwise. Elternseite is plain ugly, Vorgängerseite does not hit the hierarchivcal context IMO.
- I used Übergeordnete Seite (parent) -- ChristianKohl - 07 Jan 2004

t
- topic - Dokument; topic is more like Thema which sounds plain ugly in context; more literally, Seite would be page
- Depends on the context I'd say, I use Thema and Seite interchangingly -- ChristianKohl - 07 Jan 2004

v
w
- web - Zone; other possibilities would be Bereich, Ordner - the same stuff as in RenameWebToSthElse-discussions
