A new
$logDir has been introduced in
TWiki.cfg. It is the directory for the TWiki log files, debug.txt file and warning.txt file. The default is set to
"$dataDir" to make it compatible with existing installations.
In
TWikiAlphaRelease and at TWiki.org.

Is more documentation needed on this item as implied by the
TopicClassification?

I've changed the default logDir setting to be
twiki/logs instead of
twiki/data. This is widely held as good practice as logs often grow quickly relative to content. Your installation might wish to set $logDir to a separate partition on
/var; at the very least having it as a separate dir helps you manage it using
du.
I'd rename the topic to
LogDirectory but I've been trained that it is better to have one topic than two and

Sensible change.
This is one case where a change to the
DevelopBranch has been done, but the topic has the old form. Should be changed. Docs in TWiki web need to be updated as well.

I note that Develop 3618 has this back as defaulting to
DataDir. Any reason?

Just that I must have missed that weed when gardening. Changing the default is fine as long as it is loudly shouted about in the release notes.
BTW
$logDir is just a convenience in TWiki.cfg, it is not used in code. The individual log files must be specified with full paths. If you want to specify a single log directory for all log files, how are the sematics going to work? Will the individual log file paths override this default? Or should they be shortened to filename only specifications? How is
UpgradeTWiki going to handle this?

I've put this back to Beijing because historically that's when it shipped.
Any Proposal for a previous release with
OutstandingIssues should appear on the current releases topic (eventually).
A new topic will have to be created if there are new proposals arising out of this.
