TWiki Marketing Meeting, 11 Aug 2008
"TWiki, the open source wiki for the enterprise."
Logistics
Attendees
1. Usability & Home Page Redesign
2. Blogging
- I noticed Vicky has changed the blog topic creator. Topic names are no longer visible in WebChanges as they have a generic BlogEntry99 name. How does this fare with the others? -- ArthurClemens - 27 Jul 2008
- True, the more database-ish "unique key" style name is in WebChanges. Is there a reason this should matter? The title is used for the page <title>, any bookmarks, browser tabs, browser history, and the RSS feed (of course). I hope no one objects too strenuously over the diff in the URL name. I found the lengthy topic names to be unwieldy, unnecessary (and incorrect when the blog entry title changes). -- VickiBrown - 11 Aug 2008
3. TWiki Meet-ups
4. Merchandising
5. TWiki.org Server
6. TWiki community survey
- The participants like the idea of a TWiki Community survey.
- The members of twikicommunitygroup shall be mailed to participate. Their input is to be collected.
7. Brainstorming for ideas
- Action item: PeterThoeny: Explain why there is a need for a registration on twiki.org. I do not want to change anything. But we have to give reasons why a registration is needed. (see this: Screenshot
, Video
)
- Note that the registration screen topic is quite unstructured. Can we trim this down to a) Why register (listing benefits) and b) Registration help and c) Troubleshooting ? Perhaps using a 3 column layout. -- ArthurClemens - 27 Jul 2008

AFAIK, meta keywords and description has less effect for SEO than anything else. Unless of course, our target is non-Google search engines.
As for topic names on Blogs, part of SEO is to have good titles (and headers) and have the URL to be part of it (i.e. what it was before). The changes will only dampen the SEO rankings.
We are in Web2.0, not Web1.0.

And yes, that means lots of code changes.
Just my 2cents.

In Web 2.0, we should not need to name a URL this-is-the-name-of-the-page. Google finds pages very effectively by title and content (I know; it finds
my blog entries with unerring accuracy :-)
