TWiki User Meet-Up 2008-01-25 17:00
Agenda: We are open for suggestions, we could try and invite some inspiring speakers or have a relative free-form thing.
Ideas for the 25-01-08 meetup:
- Interested people are invited to have dinner together somewhere in Amsterdam afterwards (please note your interest in that in the RSVP table below, so we can make reservations if the group becomes big)
- Beamer so participants can show their TWiki installations, demos!
- One announced presentation/keynote
Discussion
im up for it...it would be nice maybe to have something regular and informal. I was actually wondering if it might make sense to combine with Holland Open and have the event at the same time and place as theirs?
--
AdamHyde - 24 Aug 2007
Regular and informal sounds good to me. Whether to combine with HO or other events, i'm not sure. It'd be nice to have something of our own, dedicated completely to TWiki-mania. But that is my personal opinion.
--
KoenMartens - 25 Aug 2007
Fine by me too. As long as the venue is not further than Amsterdam too.
--
KwangErnLiew - 25 Aug 2007
but if we do it we get to drink there beer...thats the point isnt it? free...as in beer...
--
AdamHyde - 25 Aug 2007
True. Maybe we could do a lecture about TWiki at the occasion too. I'll contact HO soon and see what their thoughts are.
--
KoenMartens - 28 Aug 2007
Ok, so HO is open about a TWiki themed HO borrel, so that's an option. But getting that together might take some time, and i've let time slip a lot already
So i'm just picking a date and a location here: tuesday januari 22nd, Utrecht (i can probably arrange for a room at de Oudegracht in the city center).
--
KoenMartens - 26 Nov 2007
Is the time and date definitive?
--
KwangErnLiew - 04 Dec 2007
The date: yes. We'll have Rod Beckstrom from TWIKI.NET with us at that date, and possibly also Crawford Currie AKA CDot (one of the all-time top contributors to TWiki). Time might vary i guess, would you prefer later / earlier?
--
KoenMartens - 05 Dec 2007
Personally, I have a busy morning. So I don't think I can be there till late afternoon as the earliest. So, I'll join you guys whenever.
--
KwangErnLiew - 08 Dec 2007
lets try and make it a bit bigger than a few hours? how about (shock) something that also went into saturday? I would be happy to invite speakers and get something going. I also have access to a nice space in Amsterdam if we need it for the extra day...
--
AdamHyde - 15 Dec 2007
One thing: let's not change the 25th 17:00 anymore. Having said that, i have no objections against something that continues on saturday, but i am not sure if there would be much animo for it.. Saturday being a family day and all...
--
KoenMartens - 15 Dec 2007
ok, we still on for fri? I'm keen...where is it?
--
AdamHyde - 21 Jan 2008
We're on. Location:
http://www.mediastudies.nl/contact.html
. I'll see if i can come up with a more detailled route description. It is rightin the middle of Amsterdam, near Muntplein.
--
KoenMartens - 23 Jan 2008
Will be there, if I don't get lost.
--
KwangErnLiew - 23 Jan 2008
It is great to see so much interest in a meetup in Amsterdam! Please share your thoughts here after the meetup.
--
PeterThoeny - 24 Jan 2008
I assume we will have wireless internet there ? How much time should I use for a presentation of TWiki use at TU Delft ?
--
IgorNikolic - 24 Jan 2008
It will most likely be wired internet, they are a bit paranoid about wireless. Unless you have one of those Dutch educational wifi accounts that works at the Uva, than you're fine with wireless.
--
KoenMartens - 24 Jan 2008
Ok, ill roll up my cat5 just in case. Any suggestions on the length of my talk ? I'll assume 10 min then ?
--
IgorNikolic - 24 Jan 2008
A quick report on the meetup on 2008-01-25: it was great! We had around 10 people attending, which is quite amazing considering that:
- Holland is a small country
- I sent out an email invitation only 2 days before the event
- Not many people are reading Codev topics it seems
We had talks on TWiki deployment at the TU Delft (exciting stuff!), some very nice plugins developed by
FLOSS manuals
and TWiki in use at
Lost Boys
.
It turned out that 2 hours was too short, even though half of us went out for dinner at a chinese restaurant afterwards. There was just so much to talk about and discuss. So for next time: more time and perhaps a bit more structure as to the agenda.
We did not pick a new date yet, but agreed to meet again in 3 months time. Coincidentally, that is april 25th! I'm suggesting that as the new date.

Sounds good to me. Folks over here are are enthusiastic about having it here. More about the group :

I am just waiting for the confirmation on the reservation of the room. There should be wireless internet for the participants, room from 12:30 till 17:00 and cofee/tea arranged.

--
KoenMartens - 15 Feb 2008
I just created a
TWikiUsersNLMailingList (and a
TWikiUsersSFBayMailingList) and made Arthur and Koen list admins. May I suggest to use the sourceforge.net based mailing lists for open source TWiki related communications.

PeterThoeny - 16 Mar 2008
Peter, I've put it on my overcrowded todo list to migrate the mailing list. As it is relatively low priority, i won't get to it immediatelly as there are more pressing matters demanding my attention. Thanks for creating the list!
