I think we could build a plugin that would provide a set of dynamically or periodically built pages to represent (geographically) close people. Individuals would state a property such as what city they live in on their home page and there would exist home pages for each location. The location pages would escalate up to ever larger groups, collecting ever-more-widely dispersed people. It would require a database of what cities a county or state comprised of and what counties or states comprise a country, etc.

The first step would be to capture people's work/home city on their home page. I therefore propose and request that we have this added to the TWikiRegistration as soon as possible.

The required change is the addition of the lines:

  <td><input type="password" name="Twk1Confirm" size="40" value="" /> =<font col
or="red">**</font>= </td>
</tr><tr>
  <td align="right"> Town/City: </td>
  <td><input type="text" name="Twk0TownName" size="40" value="" /></td>
</tr><tr>
  <td align="right"> Org Name: </td>

Simple.

It would be good to leverage http://geourl.org/ or at least the geotag headers GeoURL is based on. (was hosted on http://geotags.com/ but that seems to have disappeared over the last couple of days; Google cache: http://geotags.com/geo/geotags2.html ).

Very interesting, Matt. There are all kinds of geographical splinter efforts, we don't want to implement one that is going to go away if possible, yet we have to balance that with doing something.

http://geotags.com is back up, so it seems.
