Universal Wiki Edit Button
The idea of using one and the same edit icon in a number of popular wikis. Something similar happened on blog sites with the universal RSS feed icon
See work in progress at

Discussion
I like the idea of a universal wiki edit button. This helps drive the awareness of wikis, thus TWiki. What is the percentage of Wikipedia visitors who do not notice that there is an edit link on every page?
Here is my contribution posted on AboutUs.org, my studies of edit button icons:

someone clever thought to use a Unicode character - thus no image needed:

Much as I like Unicode, font support for specific characters is quite variable (which is why many websites don't use the character for
TM by the way), and the actual glyph could be rendered differently - so an image would be a better option IMO.

Good point Richard. Please participate directly on the AboutUs.org site.
I think the
TWikiCommunity should participate in the edit button discussion, and use it in the default
PatternSkin once we have an agreement. They state, "we're done when ... we need at least 90% of at least [n] ActiveMembers of [wiki software] to be at YES on the current version of the icon." What is the [n] for TWiki? 5?

There has been progress at
the Universal edit Button site
. TWiki.org and
out Bugs site
have been UEB enabled - all you need to do is install the Firefox addin, and you get a Wiki Edit Icon in the Firefox URL input box.
The

icon was suggested by
WardCunningham, the father of all wiki's.

How in the world is one supposed to know how to participate or vote on the aboutus site? I signed up and clicked the participate button, but only got a blank edit page (new topic). I copied and pasted another entry into my new blank and changed it appropriately, but it doesn't look like my "vote" is included in the results.

Site is on

And the vote was back in 2007. Icon has been chosen now.

The Universal Edit Button icon has been changed, see

I updated our uweb-* icons in
SVN trunk to the latest shape, with some modifications for readability.
