Note: these T-shirts can also be bought at the Spreadshirt website.

How to Enter

  1. Register yourself on YouTube. Please use a name similar to your TWiki.org name. It will make things much easier for us and everyone else (just remember, they're the ones who are going to vote for you, so don't confuse them).
  2. Shoot your TWiki video
  3. Log into YouTube and upload your video. Give it a meaningful name and add a description. This will help people see at a glance whose video it is and could result in more votes.
  4. Tag your entry as twiki and twikitv
  5. Wait for YouTube to process your (this could take up to 6 hours)
  6. Once processed, play the video. At the end of the video the Share icon will appear. Click on this icon and YouTube will display boxes to type in email addresses and a message.
  7. Insert Michael@twikiPLEASENOSPAM.net in the email address field. In the message field please indicate whether you would like a TWIKI.NET t-shirt or a TWiki.org t-shirt and include the address to which you'd like the t-shirt sent.
  8. Click on send message.
  9. Add your video to the page YouTubeVideos using embed HTML option (keep to date order of entry please)
  10. In a day or two your video will also be added to the Contest Playlist on TWikiTV.

Contest Stages

The contest is expected to last six weeks and go through the following stages:
  • Submissions Stage (9 weeks) 18th February to 21st April. During this stage people can submit videos where they will be listed on YouTube and TWiki.org. TWiki.org members are able to discuss videos on the YouTubeVideos page on TWiki.org. At this stage TWiki.org members can also identify videos as not Suitable Videos.
  • Voting Stage 1 (1 week) 22st April to 28th April. During this phase TWiki.org members will be able to vote for videos. Each member will have one vote. The six videos with the most votes will be put forward to Voting Part 2. Also during this phase, t-shirts will be sent out to all entrants submitting at least on Suitable Video.
  • Voting Stage 2 (1 week) 29th April to 5th May. During this phase TWIKI.NET will judge the six videos and award 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Money will be paid to the winners within one calendar month of fulfilling the cash prize eligibility criteria.

Contest Guidance

There is so much TWiki expertise in the TWiki community that we wouldn't dare tell anyone how to tell the TWiki story but we thought we'd list some tips that may increase your chances of winning.
  • Short videos – YouTube is a different medium to conventional video. Attention spans are shorter and it is so easy for the YouTube viewer to click on another video if they get bored with yours. So keep it short. Two minutes is a good length but your video should be no shorter than 1 minute and no longer than 10.
  • From the heart – It's much easier to tell people what YOU think is great about TWiki rather than what you think the judges want to see.
  • Value Add – Whatever story you tell, try to ensure that the viewer understands what benefits TWiki brings to the users (or IT manager/Finance Director etc).
  • Creative. This one is easier said than done but you'll have a better chance of winning if you come up with something original.
  • Two types of “judges” – remember that the first round of voting will be done by the TWiki.org community and the second by TWIKI.NET. You'll have to appeal to the community to get through the first round and TWIKI.NET to stand a chance of winning a cash prize.
  • Use the TWiki – use TWiki.org to brainstorm video ideas, ask for advice or even team up with others to make the video. Use the YouTubeVideosDiscussion topic.
  • Enjoy it! Making videos is fun.
  • Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The TWiki.org community isn't exactly renowned for its video production skills. Your chances of winning might be greater than you think. wink

Good luck!

Contest Rules

  • Entry Eligibility: The contest is open to individuals. If organizations want to submit then it must be through a named individual. (Note: It will be possible to pay prize money to an organization if desired.)
  • Entry Exclusions: This contest is being sponsored by TWIKI.NET and so TWIKI.NET employees or their families are not eligible to enter.
  • Registration required Individuals must be registered on TWiki.org and YouTube in order to enter the contest.
  • Number of T-shirts: Only one T-shirt per contestant irrespective of the number of videos submitted.
  • Number of main cash prizes: Only one main cash prize per entrant irrespective of the number of videos submitted.
  • Suitable Videos: The TWiki.org community will decide, by majority consensus, what constitutes a Suitable Video. (Anyone with a valid TWiki.org username is eligible to vote.) This mechanism is designed simply to weed out any poor quality entries that have been submitted just to win a t-shirt. TWIKI.NET reserves the right to over-ride this mechanism in extreme cases but this will be discussed with the TWiki.org community first.
  • T Shirts: a t-shirt will be awarded to all contestants submitting at least one Suitable Video.
  • Cash Prizes: The following cash prizes will be awarded: 1st - $2,000, 2nd - $750 and 3rd - $500.
  • Cash Prize Eligibility Criteria - In order to be eligible for a cash prize the entrant must provide TWIKI.NET with the original video file (e.g. MPG format) and allow TWIKI.NET to edit it. Editing is likely to just be the addition of opening and closing frames but this can be discussed with the winners if required. The entrant must also grant he right to TWIKI.NET to upload the resultant video to YouTube and also to remove the original YouTube video (the one that has not been edited by TWIKI.NET). Failure to comply with any of these requirements will mean that prize money will not be paid.
  • Contest Duration TWIKI.NET reserves the right to extend the Submission stage of the contest by an additional 4 weeks if it is judged that not enough videos have been submitted.
  • Final decision: The decision of the TWIKI.NET judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Discussions

I'm seeing the time frame but no actual dates listed. What is the deadline for submissions?

-- LynnwoodBrown - 25 Feb 2008

Thanks for pointing that out. Deadline for submissions is the 17th March. I've just amended this page to reflect this. And, in the process, realized that the winners will be announced on April 1st! How ironic is that! wink

-- MichaelCorbett - 25 Feb 2008

I have just been talking to PeterThoeny who says that TWiki.net are willing to extend the contest deadline by another week in response to the requests for extra time as posted on YouTubeVideos. See the new dates in the section Contest Stages.

-- MichaelCorbett - 14 Apr 2008

I is good to see submissions coming in! We extended the deadline one more time to the 21th (this is final) to give all of you some more time to work on a video. I am looking forward to seeing more participants!

-- PeterThoeny - 14 Apr 2008

Man, I wish I knew that earlier! I wouldn't have been up all night editing videos this weekend smile I'll probably be shortening mine as its a little too long.

-- TerryBochaton - 14 Apr 2008

Terry, your video is cool! We actually did not plan to extend the deadline again, but with 3 submissions (2 qualifying) we think it is better to give the community some more time. It is better to vote on 4 or more submissions than on two.

-- PeterThoeny - 15 Apr 2008

Thanks to TWIKI.NET for sponsoring this event!

-- MartinSeibert - 12 May 2008

On behalf of TWIKI.NET: Your very welcome!
