Introduction
This form is used primarily to ducment cost estimates at a high level. It is intended to be used only to assist management in determing the relative values and priorities of customization requests. These cost estimates in no way represent detailed, full-burdened financial analyses of the current or proposed processes.
Current Cost Estimate
Currently, agencies with teacher positions must complete a manual report of ERA contributions each quarter and submit them to the Education Retirement Board. This process is time consuming for the agencies. It also has potential for errors as the agencies have no reported data with which to reconcile these reports. There are approximately 6 large agencies that must complete this report. Their time estimates to compile, produce, check, and distribute the report each quarter are as follows:
Proposed Cost Estimate
The proposal is to automate this report. The proposed cost estimates are as follows: one time cost ot write program to automate the report is 100 hours @ $60/hr = $6,000. Cost to run the report is estimated at $12/qtr or $48/yr. total cost is the first year is estimated at $6,048. Cost estimates for the second year and after is $48/yr.
Benefits
The net cost savings inthe first year is a little over $200. Cost savings in subsequent years is over $6,000/yr. Intangible benefits of eliminating a tedious and time-consuming task will create a postive attitude among agency staff. Automation also can reduce, if not eliminate, clerical errors from a manual process.
